Sometimes for some people, having a quality knife to work with is not enough. The knife has to be of great quality and also looks good. This where beautiful premium knives come in. The Shun Premier Santoku knife is one of the knives that rightfully belongs to the family of “great and beautiful”.

It’s well balanced and exceptionally sharp which makes it a pleasure to slice food with this knife. What really sets the knife apart from other models, is the layered Damascus steel-clad blade with a stunning hand-hammered finish. The style of the finish is called Tsuchime in Japanese, and it will catch anyone’s eye. Not only does it look good, but the finish also reduces drag and prevents pieces of sliced food from sticking to the blade. “Sticky” blade is something I personally hate when cooking, so I would say it’s a great feature to have.

The handle is made of premium pakkawood with a walnut finish, which another gorgeous addition to complement the overall look of the knife. The handle provides a comfortable and secure grip, allowing you to work without fear of the knife slipping from your palm.

Just like the other knives in the Shun Premier line, the Santoku can be washed in the dishwasher. However, it’s still advised to wash the blade by hand and letting it air dry.

The knife comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Take proper care of the knife and it will be the last and best Santoku you will ever have to buy.

Customer reviews

During the research, I’ve also taken a look at customer reviews on various sites. As expected, the overwhelming majority of the Shun Premier Santoku reviews are extremely positive. I suggest visiting some online store to read some of the reviews to see how happy the customers were.

Some of the reviewers mentioned that a piece of the blade chipped off. This is most likely a usage problem or a rare production defect. The Santoku knives are not meant to be used for chopping hard stuff such as bones. The blades can and will break if you don’t use the knives properly. Please keep that in mind and buy a regular chopping knife, if you do a lot of chopping.

Overall, the Shun Premier Santoku knife delivers excellent quality and it also looks gorgeous. What might be a bit of a letdown for some, is the price.

The review covered only the 7-inch version of the knife, but the Shun Premier line also offers differently sized models, such as the Shun Premier 5 1/2 inch Santoku or the 7-inch wide blade Santoku. These models are of similar quality and look as the reviewed knife.
